A Short, Beautiful Walk Passing Three Waterfalls

Dolgoch Falls are a series of three impressive waterfalls forming part of the Nant Dol-Góch stream, a source for the River Fathew, and can be reached via a short walk, or by a trip on the Tal y Llyn Railway. There are a number of caves and tunnels which you can explore on the route up.

A hidden gem near to both Tywyn and Aberdovey, the only cost at Dolgoch Falls is parking at the Pay and Display car park – £2 for 4 hours or £4 all day.

The walk up the waterfalls begins at the The Dolgoch B&B, along a beautiful stream and past some deep caves – giving excellent views for miles at the top. The Dolgoch Falls Hotel, located near the waterfalls, offers a cafe and a car park for visitors.

Dolgoch Station is about 200m from the start of the trail, providing easy access for those arriving via the Talyllyn steam railway. There are clear signs from the station directing you towards the waterfalls.

Where are Dolgoch Falls?

Dolgoch falls are a short 4 mile drive northeast of the seaside town of Tywyn on the B4405 easily reached from Tywyn or Machynlleth. Dolgoch Falls are located in Snowdonia National Park. Or alternatively, you can get there by steam train! The Talyllyn Railway stops at Dolgoch Falls, and there are clear signs from the station directing you towards the water falls.

Can you take dogs to Dolgoch Falls?

Pups who love to paddle will absolutely love a trip to Dolgoch Falls, and there are plenty of opportunities for dogs to get in the water. The circular walk around Dolgoch Falls is a popular activity, offering a moderate difficulty level and stunning views of the waterfalls and surrounding woodland trails.

When is Dolgoch Falls open?

The waterfalls are attractive at any time of year offering restful serenity beneath the trees. In wet weather, the waterfalls are even more stunning as the water thunders down the river, though the paths can get slippery. Please note that for all but the lower falls the paths can be steep with a lot of steps. The trail to the upper falls and middle falls involves rocky terrain and can be challenging, especially in wet conditions. It can also be expected to be a little wet underfoot – so sturdy footwear is recommended. The trail leading to the middle waterfall passes through woodland and features uneven and muddy paths. There are a number of caves and tunnels which you can explore on the route up. However, caution is advised near the cave entrance due to safety concerns. There are plenty of opportunities for dogs to get in the water. Picnic benches are available by the upper falls, providing a great spot for visitors to enjoy their own food.
