Dovey Yacht Club is encouraging locals to have a go at sailing, during an open day to be held on Sunday 16th July.
The event starts at 11am at Dovey Yacht Club, which is located on the Wharf in Aberdyfi, and will last all day until 4pm. Anyone can turn-up at any time, have a go at sailing under the guidance of an experienced sailor and then have a chat with Club members over refreshments in the Club lounge afterwards. The event is entirely free and there is no commitment to join Dovey Yacht Club, although there are special membership offers for those who are interested.
Phil Morgan, Head of Training at Dovey Yacht Club, explains: “This is a great opportunity for anyone who has always wondered what it’s like to go sailing, to find out for themselves.
“We’ll have a range of boats available, all the safety kit people need and expert sailors at hand to ensure the experience is a pleasurable one! No previous sailing experience is necessary.
“Sailing is a sport for everyone and we are keen to encourage more locals to give it a go and discover for themselves the joys of being out on the water. We have a really friendly group of members at Dovey Yacht Club, including local families and a thriving youth section.”
Phil Morgan concluded: “There will be members available to talk to in the Clubhouse and for those who do fancy taking their sailing further, we will be offering special discounts on membership fees and we are running a number of low cost sailing courses throughout the year to enable people to learn the basics and build their skills. We also have a large fleet of Club boats available for use by members and it’s therefore not necessary to own a boat in order to start sailing.
“We really hope locals will take advantage of this opportunity to experience the joys of sailing on the beautiful Dyfi estuary.”
